About the EISRI-Summit

The European Intersectoral Summit on Research and Innovation (EISRI-Summit) is a European meeting organised by the Permanent Platform of AC every eighteen months dedicated to research and innovation. It is designed to create a unique opportunity for intersectoral and interdisciplinary discussions between leading stakeholders to:

a- Define the role of research and innovation in the development of a strong and competitive knowledge society;
b- Discuss the relationship between science and society;
c- Come up with concrete recommendations on what has to be done in the short terms at a European level to reach the long term objectives;
d- Brainstorm and discuss concrete activities that the institutions engaged in the Permanent Platform of AC can develop to support this process from the bottom-up.

The Summit under the auspices of the Polish Presidency of the European Union will bring together the leading representatives from research, business, media and politics.

The European Intersectoral Summit on Research and Innovation intends to put Research and Innovation at the centre of the political agenda and, at the same time, at the centre of the public debate. With the aim to initiate a virtuous cycle in the direction of a strong and competitive Europe, the Summit will address what can be done concretely to further favour a stronger intersectoral cooperation at a European level in favour of research and innovation.

About the Permanent Platform of Atomium Culture

The Permanent Platform of Atomium Culture brings together some of the most authoritative universities, newspapers and businesses in Europe in the first intersectoral platform for the selection (universities), knowledge transfer (universities-businesses) and dissemination (newspapers) of leading European research, to increase the movement of knowledge: across borders, across sectors and to the public at large.

To succeed in its Mission, today the Permanent Platform of AC has the strongest active network of leading European newspapers as well as one of the most important active networks of leading European universities and businesses.

The platform brings together 26 universities, over one hundred thousand researchers, over one million students, seventeen newspapers, around ten million European readers per day, and some of the most important businesses in Europe with a total turnover of 720 Billion Euros.

The Permanent Platform of Atomium Culture was founded on the assumption that the active participation and cooperation between the core pillars of civil society is necessary for the development of a real knowledge society that depends for its growth on the production of new knowledge and its transmission through education (universities), its development and use through new industrial processes (businesses) and its dissemination through reliable information (newspapers).

The Permanent Platform of Atomium Culture was launched publicly by the leaders of the institutions engaged, by the former French President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and by Michelangelo Baracchi Bonvicini, currently Honorary President and President of AC, on the 27 November 2009 at the European Parliament in Brussels.

The platform is organised under the Law of Belgium as an International Non-Profit Organisation (Association International Sans But Lucratif).
